South Africa is a underdog in development compared to other countries, were part of the poor south, were not as developed and as rich as the rich north but were getting there with every thing that has happened during the world cup last year with world class stadiums thousands of houses being built for the poor, the upgraded roads and more. The government is also thinking of improving the water distribution and says that in every settlement there has to be a tap 50m away from every person, if you ask me i find that mad and there is no way they will be able to do it. The rand is also catching up to the dollar which is a good sign.
Most foreigners think that south Africa doesn't have Internet, we'll we do its not as good as Switzerland(they have the fastest Internet in the world) but at 4megs its ok. Another stereotype of south Africa is that we have lions in our back yards and that we ride elephants to school!, If there was a lion in my back yard I would soil my pants and run for my life and good luck riding a elephant or even trying to get on one, for that you should go to India.
Were also getting into astronomy, we have been building Radio teleskopes for a while know, like the MeerKAT and the KAT-7 but those are all building bricks in the long run, those telescopes are only tests to see if the new technology works, why are we testing radio telescopes here all the way down in tiny South Africa well there is less light polution and polution, there is a calm ionosphere and not to mention areas of low population and low radio interfearance and the main reason is because Africa is a finalist along with Australia for the Square Kilometer Array, The most powerful radio telescope ever.
But more on that later.
